Product update
Start on your phone. Bring your existing work along.
What the October 9 Dots update adds, and what the current guides clarify about ongoing help.
What the October update adds
OpenAI’s October 9 update introduces creating and personalizing your dot in the ChatGPT mobile app, including connecting plugins. It also reports expanded context from ChatGPT conversations and existing Codex work, better continuity in Codex threads, and the ability to read and edit ChatGPT Work automations. Read the release note.
On a phone, use the latest ChatGPT mobile app. Mobile web is not supported. Desktop app and desktop-browser setup remain available. App connections and a personal-computer connection are optional, separate choices. Current setup guide.
The release note also reports browsing, notification, setup, and review fixes. Those are OpenAI’s reported improvements; we have not measured them ourselves.
What the guides clarify
These are current operating details, not claims that each feature first shipped on October 9:
- One dot can hold several responsibilities while you change priorities in conversation.
- Fixed-time work needs a saved schedule. Supported event monitoring needs a specified trigger and confirmed setup. A connection alone establishes neither.
- Useful suggestions can arise from available context without a fixed timer. Their timing and usefulness vary.
- Selected context and saved notes are not perfect recall. Access to some existing work does not mean access to every conversation.
- Pausing the main task, stopping delegated tasks, and canceling recurring runs are separate controls.
Use the steering guide when a result or arrangement needs correcting. The advanced guide covers existing Codex threads, Work automations, and where work runs.
Who can use it
Rollout is gradual; an eligible plan does not guarantee that the feature is already visible. OpenAI currently lists Pro 100/200/500 for adults outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland; Business Premium worldwide; and Enterprise worldwide with administrator enablement. Workspace permissions can further restrict features. Check the current access section and your own account before planning around a capability.
Work or Codex tasks your dot starts or manages use those products’ allowances. We do not promise an exact usage quota or free ongoing work.
Try one useful next step
Bring a project you already understand. Ask what is finished, what is blocked, and which decision needs you. Check the answer against the latest source, then make one correction. Our project follow-through playbook shows an illustrative way to do that over several visits.
